Bring a blanket and spend the afternoon at the beach, or take a romantic walk down the beach hand in hand. Once I saw dolphins jumping out of the water not far away. Usually great music and a cute little hamburger hut.
Romantic beach date. It’s pretty lively with good tunes and excellent variety of people to gander at. Feel the sand between your toes and listen to the waves crash as you stare into the oceans of your lovers eyes.
Ideal for summer. Ok for late fall or early spring
TIP: Gay friendly. The beach on the far left side is the gay section. Tops optional as well
PRICE: Free with unlimited subway card.
LOCATION: Jacob Riis Park
157 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Rockaway Park, NY 11694
If you don’t have a car, you can take the A train to the end of the line, and then a bus that drops you in front of the beach. You can also take a ferry from Pier 11 in Manhattan or Brooklyn Army Terminal, which offers a more scenic ride and is priced the same as a subway ride ($2.75 one-way as of this writing). The ferry docks at the Rockaway ferry station and from there, there is a free bus transfer to the beach.
