Hamilton Heights has a lot of cute bars and if you happen to be looking during the hours of 4-7 definitely go and find UPTOWN BOURBON — this adorable little bar with stellar prices. Great tunes. Great atmosphere. Great staff. Very laid back energy. Come for a great Hamilton Heights Happy Hour!
Maribelle’s in SOHO is a romantic cozy European style chocolate house. They sell high end chocolates and beautiful gift sets. Don’t let this intimidate you. Head to the back and ask for a table. Order a hot chocolate and sip the decadence as you converse with your date. The beautifully styled cafe will dazzle your eyes and the thick non-dairy hot chocolate will make your taste buds dance.
TIP: Try the spicy hot chocolate if you are adventurous, or I recommend the Aztec for a less daring palate.
Ludlow Coffee Supply is cool. They have couches in the back and a record player with an interesting ever changing selection of tunes. You and your date should grab one of their signature lattes (bourbon vanilla or my favorite — salted caramel). Sip you lattes as you listen to the music and enjoy each others company on a comfy couch.
On your way – stop at the vintage candy store in service since the 1930s Candy Store Show your date you know weird hole in the wall places like a true New Yorker!
Looking to impress a literary-inclined date? The Franklin Park Reading Series invites a group of emerging and established authors each month to read at their venue in Crown Heights. Featuring everyone from best-selling authors like Roxanne Gay and Jennifer Egan, to contemporary experimental writers like Christine Schutt and Diane Williams, there’s something for every kind of reader.
Hidden between an apartment building and the bustling Franklin Avenue, Franklin Park is a beer garden open all throughout the year. In addition to the reading, the bar will offer $5 drafts as well as a free raffle for the featured authors’ books.
