One of NYCs hidden gems is the Cloisters. This beautiful museum is an extension of the MET dedicated to the art, architecture, and gardens of medieval Europe, and, like the MET, admission is donation based for NY residents. One dollar could get you admission for you and your date. Exploring the grounds is also a romantic idea. The Cloisters sits in Fort Tryon Park. Explore the old fortress or walk around in the curated gardens. This is a beautiful place to explore trails or sit and cuddle while looking out over the Hudson.
Deriving its name from the medieval cloisters that form the core of the building, it presents a harmonious and evocative setting for more than 2,000 exceptional artworks and architectural elements from the medieval West.
From the outside, it may look like a regular good old fashioned coffee ship, but on the inside you are transported to a 1960s Korean inspired cafe. They serve a truly “black” coffee called the Matt Black. more info

Bring a blanket and spend the afternoon at the beach, or take a romantic walk down the beach hand in hand. Once I saw dolphins jumping out of the water not far away. Usually great music and a cute little hamburger hut.

If you don’t have a car, you can take the A train to the end of the line, and then a bus that drops you in front of the beach. You can also take a ferry from Pier 11 in Manhattan or Brooklyn Army Terminal, which offers a more scenic ride and is priced the same as a subway ride ($2.75 one-way as of this writing). The ferry docks at the Rockaway ferry station and from there, there is a free bus transfer to the beach.
